Food Truck Popularity

We have seen a huge trend growing over the last couple of summers in Canada and across the USA … The Food Truck.

Food Truck Popularity has skyrocketed and the trucks have really scaled it up from just sandwiches, ice cream & coffee like in the past. Although Food Trucks were around before 2000, many say their popularity started around 2008 and since then have been popping up everywhere in parks, curbside, festivals & church parking lots.

Who knew a church parking lot could smell so delish?!

In the past I remember mainly seeing them at Carnivals, Events, construction sites or work places. They were always a plain white truck where the side would open up and they would un-passionately sell you snacks and drinks. Well Food Truck Popularity has changed the whole concept of food trucks almost like a friendly competition to out decorate, cook and be the most creative.

It is now a popular way to dine and you can even find “Food Truck Nights” trending in near by cities. I love seeing the old VW Vans and school buses turned into Popular Food Trucks and the faces that appear to serve you the food are often the owners and so passionate about what they are doing.

Both of those reasons add to the experience as well as the selection of food, dessert & drink.

Bernie & I are digging this Food Truck thing and love trying something new each time we find them. From BBQ & Grilled Cheese to Curry, Asian fusion & Mexican we have tried a lot. They even have Vegetarian & Vegan trucks so when your feeling on the healthy side ... Voila!!

Bernie & I are not much on “play on words” when it comes to dog businesses but I love the clever names of the food truck we have found and the colorful pain jobs add to the fun!

Curry Up Now” - San Francisco

"Dogzilla Hot Dog Truck" – Orange County

"Grillenium Falcon" - Fayettvile, Arkansas (yes may be my fave name!!)

"Egg Slut" - Los Angeles, California

"What the Fork" - Dunmore, Pennsylvania

are some examples haha depending on your humour I did not include some but you can google "Best / Worst Food Truck Names" and get the idea..

What has created The Food Truck Popularity…

Maybe it was less risky for a restaurateur to turn to a mobile truck. Maybe it gave them less hours to work as they were not stuck to one location everyday. Maybe it’s the social aspect and the freedom to travel & cook. Possibly easier to market?

Regardless it is continuing to grow and not slowing down anytime soon.

There is even a Vancouver Food Truck Tour that can be taken lunch times from April – Dec … the smoked salmon on that tour has my name written all over it!!

So as a conclusion Food Truck Popularity is here to stay, so much so that we are having one of our faves at our wedding in June.

Southern Smoke Truck will be catering our Big Day!

Not only is Southern Smoke Truck a popular Food Truck but it’s truck was custom built by the owner & our friend Mike. It can be found on the streets throughout Hamilton and area selling delicious BBQ, smoked meat, pulled pork and the most delicious chicken. All sauce is local by Uncle Nathan mmmm (You can check out our I Love Hot Sauce FB Page).

If you have been hesitant or simply not finding any in your area its time to venture out and go! They are generally cleaner than most restaurants and I guarentee you will find something unique, delicious and start working the Food Truck Circuit like us!

So from the bottom of my heart (still healthy thanks to the veggie trucks) see you at the Food Truck & especially when it’s paired with a Beer Festival … no wonder I love the flexibility of my “job”.

Yours in Food Truck Tasting,

Tiffany
