So if you live in a climate that has a winter or are Canadian you will be well aware of the need for a Canadian touque. You need to read on to understand...

I own lots of "Canadian" Touques and basically wear them 80% of the time in the fall & winter.

Please don't judge... or go ahead but they are pretty stylin'

Yes there are my favorites and like many of the things I own there are stories that go along with them. I always come home with some sort of story.

So here is the interesting part....

I am not a fantastik speller (kidding I know its fantastic) but I was confused whether I spell Touque like that, or like this Toque and it turns out there is a third way…. like this, tuque.

So yes more confused then ever but feeling more Canadian too.

According to Wikipedia: Toque refers more to shef hats (haha kidding again on the spelling) and then there was a separate whole section labeled Canadian, haha that seems appropriate, and that goes on to talk about a knitted hat. They also ramble on aboot (haha) a bobble hat...

So ya, thanks once again Wikipedia for the clarification….

Now on to the way more exciting Urban Dictionary, cause we know we like what they have to say more.

1- touque-

A Canadian must have. Most notably worn by Bob and Doug McKenzie. Canadian versions of the touque are best identified by the “pom-pom” attached to the top of the touque.

“Ok eh! Like it was so cold that we had to wear touques eh!”

haha that was not my quote, as it freakishly sounds like me, it was taken from Urban Dictionary.

2- touque-

a hat; skullcap; sled; toboggan; beanie; cap; ear length hat with no distinctive features, simply a bowl-shaped cloth which one wears on its head.

Hahahaha sorry that made me laugh .. all three times I read it and as I typed.

3- touque

An uncircumcised….. ok I can’t repeat this one. I guess that is why we refer to the Urban Dictionary in the first place. You can check out #3 on your own.

I would continue to talk about the history of it as that information is actually available but it is dry, uninteresting and you are probably stuck now on Urban Dictionary looking up random wordz.

So share your comments and pictures of Touques. Let me know if your stereotype of Canada is a little stronger or if you are right there beside me on the strong feeling of Touque rights from October thru April.

Until next time,

Tiffany
